RUSKOMÄNTYPISTIÄINEN TOUKKA (Neodiprion sertifer) the European pine sawfly
Pihassa olevilla vuorimännyillä on valtavasti ruskomäntypistiäisen toukkia! Tietääkö kukaan voiko niitä torjua, ennen kuin ne tuhoaa neulaset? Pikkulinnut ehkä voisi napisa niitä suuhun, mutta löytääkö linnut niitä!
My husband picked the larvae off by hand today and put them in hot water. The pine trees where they were are now looking awful! The needles have been eaten off several branches, leaving only a bare trunk! Some have completely brown needles!! We have to hope that the trees will be able to recover and produce new needles, otherwise we have no choice but to cut them down.
Never heard of this pest before, and the photo really gives me the heebie‑jeebies! Those larvae look like they could strip a tree bare in no time. Hope you find a way to stop them before they do too much damage.
Are birds capable of eating such a huge number of larvae? It's a dangerous pest. I don't know how to destroy it. Chemically?
VastaaPoistaThe larvae were collected by hand today and immersed in hot water! Too bad I didn't notice them in time!
PoistaVery creepy to see. I don't know what you can do, Anne.

PoistaSawflies are very common in Canada too. I don't know how one can get rid of them.
VastaaPoistaThey are absolutely horrible! We have never had that problem in our garden! I feel sorry for our pine trees, they are completely without needles.
